Following the dramatic events in Swansea on the 10th June 2004 Labour lost control of the City & County of Swansea to the Welsh Liberal Democrats, Independents and Conservatives.

In Swansea East Labour lost seats in Landore Ward, Llansamlet Ward, Mynyddbach Ward and St Thomas Ward and Liberal Democrats continue to hold Cwmbwrla Ward. In Morriston Ward the Liberal Democrats came a very close second.

Councillor Rob Speht will campaign on the issues of delivery of public services and trust. He pledges to deliver a better health service, better education, more bobbies on the beat and to abolish the unfair council tax.
