Swansea East contains the heart of our city's industrial base, the docks, many residential areas and several large council estates.
The Swansea East constituency still suffers from poor front line services, be it in health, education, police or public transport. Environmental concerns have been to the fore recently following the recent decision by the Environment Agency to site an incinerator at Crymlyn Burrows and the poor air quality in Hafod.
Politically, the constituency has a strong Welsh Liberal Democrat base. It is the home of Assembly Member Peter Black, who has been campaigning in the area for at least 20 years. He was the first Liberal Democrat councillor here and now has two colleagues in the Cwmbwrla Ward. Councillor Rob Speht and Viv Abbott also represent the Landore Ward (Hafod, Landore and Plasmarl).
